The Council for Economic Education awarded the NCCEE a EEE Grant for projects to be conducted as part of the 2009 Excellence in Economic Education grants funded by the United States Department of Education Office of Innovation and Improvement. "The importance of economic and financial education has deservedly gained attention in recent years as the connection between this literacy and young people's future quality of life has become more apparent, said Robert Duvall, the Council's President and CEO. "As a result of these grants, teachers will have the training and tools to confidently teach these important concepts to their students. The EEE will ultimately help prepare young people to fulfill their potential in an increasingly complex and globally competitive world." Through the EEE Program, the Council and its partners promote economic literacy among K-12 students, while giving teachers the understanding of economics they need to increase student mastery of economic principles and the practical applications of those principles. Additional objectives of the EEE Program are to: - Increase student's knowledge of and achievements in economics;
- strengthen teachers' understanding of and competence in economics;
- encourage economic research and development;
- assist states in measuring the impact of education in economics; and
- leverage and expand increased private and public support for economic education partnerships at the national, state and local levels.
