Our Vision

A North Carolina where all of its citizens have the knowledge, understanding and skills to make informed economic choices.

Our Mission

To insure that all students in North Carolina develop economic understanding and abilities to solve problems in their lives as consumers, savers, investors, employees, employers, citizens and participants in a global economy.

Our Structure

The North Carolina Council on Economic Education is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation founded October 5, 1970 and incorporated under the laws of the state of North Carolina, as contained in Chapter 55A of the General Statutes of North Carolina.

Anyone desiring to inspect our non-profit application or determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service may do so by contacting our office to schedule an appointment.

Our Board

The Council is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of at least 12 but not more than 40 members. These Board members reflect our constituencies of business and education. The Board membership is statewide and reflects the diverse economic base of North Carolina. At least 40% of the Board is from the field of education and at least 40% is from the field of business. Honorary Board members are elected from time to time from among those North Carolina leaders who have demonstrated a deep and long-lasting commitment to economic literacy in North Carolina and the nation.

There is an annual meeting of the Board of Directors as well as special meetings which the Board may choose to call.
